Masters in Library and Information Studies

The Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program is designed for individuals entering information studies professions. The regional cohort format offered at the Gadsden Center provides working adults with the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree by enrolling in evening, weekend and online classes.  Study begins in spring term with a required one-day orientation at the Gadsden Center.  Six required courses are offered online, one per semester for 6 consecutive terms.  Students must complete at least 3 elective courses at the Gadsden Center and may also take elective classes online or in Tuscaloosa.

Students pursuing certification as school media specialists must contact Dr. Gordon Coleman, coordinator for details regarding certification (email gcoleman@slis.ua.edu).

The Gadsden program is designed so that a student can complete 36 semester hours over a period of two or more years by combining online core courses with electives taken at Gadsden, in Tuscaloosa and/or online.  The American Library Association, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the Southern Association of Colleges accredit the program.
